For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST)

"The mission of FIRST® is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership." Below are some K-12 programs provided by FIRST.

FIRST Lego League JR aims to pique children’s interest in real-world scientific challenges while also encouraging collaboration and utilizing motorized LEGO® pieces. FIRST Lego League JR is open to students in kindergarten through fourth grade.

FIRST Lego League is a competition for elementary and middle school children to research a real-world engineering challenge, devise a solution, and compete with their own LEGO-based robots. The FIRST Lego League is open to students in grades four through eight.

FIRST Tech Challenge is a competition in which teams of middle and high school students design, build, and program a robot to compete against the creations of other teams in a floor game. The FIRST Tech Challenge is open to students in grades seven through twelve.

FIRST Robotics Competitions are for high school-aged teams to compete head-to-head on a specific playing field with robots they have designed, built, and programmed. The FIRST Robotics Competition is available to students in grades nine through twelve.
