About FIRST

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST)

FIRST® aims to inspire young people to become leaders and innovators in science and technology through engaging mentor-based programs. These programs help build skills in science, engineering, and technology, while also fostering life skills like self-confidence, communication, and leadership. Below are some K-12 programs offered by FIRST.

FIRST LEGO League Discover

FLL Discover is a program for children ages 4–6, introducing them to basic STEM concepts through play-based learning and LEGO activities.

FIRST LEGO League Explore

FLL Explore is for students ages 6–9, where teams collaborate to build simple robots and solve challenges using LEGO bricks, while also learning the basics of coding and engineering.

FIRST LEGO League

FIRST Lego League is a competition for students in grades 4–8 to solve real-world engineering challenges and build LEGO-based robots.

FIRST Robotics Competition

FIRST Robotics Competition is for students in grades 9–12 to design, build, and program robots to compete on a specific playing field.

FIRST Tech Challenge

FIRST Tech Challenge is a robotics competition for students in grades 7-12, where teams design, build, and program robots to compete in floor games.
